| How good is the vacum in the trunk I was planning on removing the two rear speakers and using mdf to mount two 10" 500 watt subs on the mdf under the opening with an air tight seal in between. So I will be basically using the trunk as the sub box with no cutting, and the subs mounted under the oem rear speaker openings and firing into the cabin. Is this upserd and not worth all the cuttting of MDF, any suggestions ( I wanna save my rear spare and all available room in the trunk. Thanks in advance Last edited by Red Bimmer : 08-03-2003 at 06:40 PM. |

| sorry bud its not going to work unless you get some free-air speakers. the are several spots where it would leak. there are vents right underneath the rear deck. like 10 or so 3"x2" holes. and then on the sides behind the upholstry is a vent that has a plastic flap over it. its covered by the rear bumper, but not sealed.

| No but they will work better than a normal sub in a free air design. The free air has a stronger suspension on it because there is no pressure from the box working on the cone. This makes it harder to move but it can bump and "can" sound good.

| Free air subs are designed to use the entire trunk space as an enclosure....but unless you really know what you are doing with this type of install, I suggest you dont even try it. A well done install can sound awesome, but if you think that you can just slap a pair of woofers on the rear deck and have it sound good, you have another thing coming. Its not that simple. You would be better off buying one high quality 10" or 12" that didn't require a large box, and just mounting the box in one corner of the trunk. In your situation though, I would forget about the freeair, unless you know someone that is really skilled at installing.

| When you say skilled in installing do you mean pllugging up all and any opening and then dynamiting the trunk, and then making sure that the subs are mounted air-tight to the trunk deck? Or is it more involved, thanks |

| You should go to a decent shop, and talk to an installer about free- air applications. Then maybe you can decide if it is a route that you want to take with your vehicle.
