Little OT: Unswitched Power Source

This is not exactly an audio question, but its wiring related. I have an MZ3 Coupe. I need to tap into a power source connected directly to the battery (unswitched I believe). The area I'm working in is directly in front of the shifter underneath the console. Can anyone tell me the nearest source to tap into. Someone suggested the power going to the cig lighter. I never had the lighter, but the power that goes into the socket is there. Would that work?
