| well the kicker's are nice for output, but they require alot of power to get that output. the xtant's have pretty good sq but aren't very loud. i did alot of research and listened to alot of subs before i got mine personally i would go with image dynamics IDQ's or if you want some real sq with some spl to match get an IDMAX. a pair of IDQ 12's will hit as hard as a IDMAX and a pair of IDQ 12's will be cheaper, sound better and hit just as hard as a pair of L7's. they will also sound just as good if not a bit better and hit alot harder and faster then the xtant's. once i get my IDMAX up and running i can give you a listen. just need to get my enclosure built. | yeh as above the xtant is a much more 'refined' build of sub, in true xtant style, but thats not to say the L7 will sound like a terd either. the L7 will almost definately (given correct power/enclosure/install done to both) give quite more output, but the xtant isnt shy and can still get quite loud, so it depends what your after really. plus you might want to remember the xtant costs considerably more than the L7 does if that makes any difference try to get a listen to both and see which suits your tastes better is the best advice

| Being a L7 fan and owner myself, I have to vouch for its great sound quality (yes, from a 15") and heart stopping bass (at high wattage that is). If I were you I would seriously consider the Kicker L7 series, IDMAX, RE and maybe Alpine type r's if your on a budget. If you have any questions on my set up, feel free to ask me (pics are in my gallary). Take care and good luck with your choice .

| BimmerPower: IDMAX if you are on a budget? are you kidding me? This year's model v.3 goes for $600+ and is 1000watts RMS 1800max. That means you need a hefty pricey amp to power it. My one 2ohm DVC 12" IDmax v.3 in sealed 1.25ft^3 box powered by ORION XTR PRO 1400 will blow two 12" xtants out of their hex cut boxes anyday.

| m3zfosheezy: you can get a brand new IDMAX from sounddomain.com for $450 plus tax (they are in bellingham) BTW: what do you think of that orion amp? does the max still sound pretty clean with it? i have never personally used orion amps but have heard alright things about them cuz i need a bigger amp for my max. need the power at 2ohms (i have a DVC4ohm) Tom Last edited by 943184dr : 06-13-2003 at 12:52 PM. |

| . yea thats how much they are asking for it but guess what though they dont have it in stock to sell it to you! haha. Anyways $600 is retail of course you can get stuff cheaper here and there....I got mine from an east coast Image Dynamics rep for $360 shipped w/the 2 year warranty. Make sure that sounddomain.com is selling the brand new V.3 and not last year's model. you are assed out at 2ohms if you want an Orion amp.... almost all except for maybe a few of the old school Orion amps (SX series) make their max power at 1ohm or 4ohms. Rockford Fosgate sells BD-class amps that make max power at 2ohms. Their 801s model is good power too @2ohms. Back when Orion was at its peak their amps were untouchable by other companies regarding sound quality and power. “The Beast” Orion xtreme 2250 amp is like 6+ years old and it still sells for $400+ on ebay Even nowadays the only amps that come close to Orion’s power output and efficiency are the D-class amps and RF’s BD-class amp. No A-class amp right now can match Orion’s amps right now I don’t think. Go to caraudioelite.com and ask one of the ol skool Orion experts there. You gotta have the space for the XTR 1400 though. its 25inches long BTW: if you got the $$ then go for the HCCA series (red) Orion amps instead of the XTR series (black). Orion HCCA is a true cheater amp and the amount of power those amps put out while still having exceptional sound quality and efficiency is unsurpassed in their price bracket

| yeah the HCCA's ar nice if you have several subs so you can take advantage of their .5ohm stability. are rockford amps really any good, i have listend to some and they sounded pretty good but i have heard the build quality isn't all that great on them and that they dont put out the power they advertise anymore. That and i got my v.2 for $380 out the door at the only image dynamics dealer i know of in the area. Tom |

. I'm very well aware of the prices for the subwoofers I listed. My Kicker S15L7 retails for around $500, where as a pair of 12" Alpine Type R's will run around $220. What I am trying to say is that if your are on somewhat of a budget, Alpine is a great buy for a very decent product. Not all of us can afford to put down for IDMAX subs and top of the line amps . Later.
