Need Help from my Canadian Buddies (VAN)

So i am thinking about moving to Vancouver and attending UBC. I want to know if some of you guys can help a fellow out by suggesting good areas to live in. Also if you are driving around and see some killer ass deal for a place please let me know. I am on a budget of about 1000-1200 usd. per month and would prefer something in or near downtown. Yaletown, Gastown,etc...

I'm planning on moving towards Kerisdale/Quilchena park area in the early new year. Check those areas out, quite close to UBC and still in downtownish areas, but suttle. Also, if you can afford, check out Spanish Banks and whatnot. Very close to the water
