| Burning smell after I drive (tires possibly) After I drive, even short distances, I smell this burning odor, it seems like it might be coming from the tires, but I dont remember ever noticing this smell before. Any help would be appreciated. I have a 1997 M3/4. I dont want to take it in to the bastards at bmw of san francisco because i wont get a loaner car and they are generally assholes. So i am trying to figure this out without the dealer. Thanks, Michael mike_usc@onebox.com |

| Your brake pads could be rubbing even when you're not braking. This would cause extreme friction between the brake pads and rotor, giving off an unpleasant odor. When you accelerate, does it feel a little like you're dragging something? If this is the problem go get your brakes checked out. Hope this helps. ![]()

| The smell is probably being caused by the brake pads. It could also be the possibility that there is oil or some substance on your pads. I would get your brakes changed. Also I agree with you that BMW San Francisco are asses not to mention some other auto dealers around the Bay Area whom I believe are of a similar breed.
