| TN FS: '93 318i, needs subframe Alright, my baby just ate her subframe, so I'm finally going to replace her with a newer, lower mileage vehicle. Here are the specs, issues, and brutal truths about the car. Quick specs: Model: 1993 318i Tranny: 5 Speed Manual Mileage: 214k VIN: WBACA5310PFG05624 Carfax is clean, but I can tell the hood has been repainted. I don't know why, and it wasn't done by the guy I bought the car from(supposedly). Car was bought through my mechanic, Stan at Precision Autowerks in Raleigh, NC. EDIT: Worth noting, I didn't know the hood was repainted until it was detailed and he showed me how to tell it was repainted. That was several years later. Last checked MPG was ~27mpg in city, and 35-37mpg with mixed mountain hwy and interstate driving. I didn't granny for those numbers, either. Performance Mods: - H&R Sport Cup Kit: Front struts are a year old, rear struts are about 4 years old now. - Rear Control Arms: Replaced by Korman Autoworks to dial out the negative camber; less than 1k miles on them. - M3 front control arm bushings: less than 1k miles - Conforti Chip: I put this in about 5 years ago. Unfortunately, this is the 1% of all early e36s with the soldered in chip, so I had to solder out the old and solder this in. No problem, but worth noting that it is not a drop in. - OEM X-Brace: Installed about 4 years ago. - KMAC Adjustable front camber kit: installed about a year ago. Tires: - Eagle F1 GS-D3s. Fronts are new, less than 1k miles and a few months old. Rears have less than 10k miles, or there abouts. They are about 1 year old. Totally overkill. Exterior Mods: - Predator Chromium Angel Eyes/Euro Lights: form umnitza, for better or worse. About 2 years old - Smoked Tail lights: I just like the look of black on gold. About 2 years old, also from umnitza - M-tech front bumper from bavauto.com: original bumper was shattered by road debris. caused no damage except to the bumper itself. - Wheels from a 2003 330cic. Standard 7 spoke rims with slight road rash on all four, appropriate for the age. Interior Mods: - Wired for a woofer/amp: Includes wiring harness. No radio, No woofer, No amp. There are a lot of paint defects which have always annoyed me. Scratches and some weird crap that I'm not sure what it is. Detail did not remove them. There are some places where the clear coat is starting to go, but they are very small. The front bumper is scratched up due to rock chips. The whole car would optimally need a repaint, but it is not horrible or anything. The passenger side fog light is cracked, but has been patched so as to keep water out. Hit by road debris, caused no other damage. The interior has a lot of defects. The Driver's side b-pillar is entirely gone, but I have a NEW replacement for it, uninstalled. The passenger side is badly cracked, but still together. There is damage to the passenger side lower center console area from a poorly done radio/woofer install. There is NO RADIO. Driver's side seat has a lot of cracks in the leather. Driver's side door panel is horrible, with vinyl detaching, the insert clips are snapped, and the door handle cover has lost its top clips, making it impossible to install. The door panel itself has some broken clips and there is a plastic molding holding the door clips that was glued to the door card and had separated itself due to many opening and closings. The plastic molding piece has snapped, from what I can tell. Worst part, the Driver's Side Door window slide area has a crack in the metal. Everything works fine, and I have had this defect for several years with no problem. Also, the tilt mechanics is broken for the sunroof. Can be a DIY fix, just needs replacement rails. The car is low, and the rear wheels have a good deal of negative camber. The entire car was aligned by korman autoworks in greensboro, NC. The rear camber increases grip, but it is not so much as to cause excessive tire wear. The engine runs strong and it only loses a slight amount of oil. Less than a quart. Replacing the Valve Stem Seals would most likely negate this entirely, and give a slight performance boost. I was about to do that, myself. The transmission is in good working order. It runs strong, though it does have the clunky 2nd gear that plagues e36s. Fifth acts a little weird. If you shift out of fifth, and then decide to go back into fifth, it will grind. If you go down into fourth, and then back into fifth, it is fine. This car has not been abused, though I do drive it spiritedly like any driving enthusiast. Not redlined, not driven overly hard. Not raced, because who the hell would race a slow 318i anyways? Not driven by a teenager, either. The car ate the subframe moments before I was going to get it welded back together. It would need a used subframe and, ideally, subframe reinforcements done at the same time. Quite a bit of labor, since you have to take the entire rear of the car apart. I would assume you'd need a new rear alignment, too. Taking offers, but I CANNOT part out this car; I have no way to do so. Sold as a package AS IS. Looking at $1500 OBO, taking into consideration the modifications on the vehicle. Local buyers are preferred, but I don't think there are many dtmers in JC. I cannot ship it at my own expense, and I doubt shipping it would be that worth it, anyways. It is realistically undrivable, though it can still move under its own power, and it can be maneuvered short distances. Pictures are available here; it is my own webserver at home, so it may get a little slow if a lot of traffic is hitting it at once. I'll move them to external hosting asap. Any questions or pic requests, just ask. Last edited by mbavaria30s : 07-23-2008 at 11:38 AM. |
