| Hi Folks, long time no post...
I've had the same problemo on my car - I think the Guibo was throwing things out and killing the centre bearing. At present I have the 330i Guibo, and an M3 centre bearing - will see how long this lasts. I've asked Doug Maher from Turner motor sports, and he said theirs are OEM, and he's not aware of an upgrade part.
A turbo/NOS M3 in Canberra has a Carbon Fibre 1 piece because he got sick of replacing the above items, imported it from the states. He said the whole car vibrates, but he doesn't care.
I found a Ford forum which mentioned getting a one piece made up by an engineering shop for $550.00 - no comment on how the car fared.
Having said that, me mechanic spoke with his preferred tailshaft balancer in melbourne, who does tailshafts for a number of 'Group A' (his quote) and did Perkins tailshafts - he said that all these top racers have ditched the one piece and gone back to 2 piece. He said that the shaft angle is about 7 degrees, and over short distances, this is fine, but over long distances, uni's can get all unhappy and twist up really easily, and then you'll get all sorts of bad things.
Seems to me that if it was cheaper and lighter to do a one piece, BMW would have done it. They wouldn't have a more expensive and heavier 2 piece in the M3 unless there was a damned good reason.... |
