E21 Keep A/C or not

Hi there,

I have an E21 323i' 83' which came with the Air con.
I installed a Cd Player yrs ago, and put up with the Cd's skipping till
the point where i don't notice it cos im used to it, annoyed the hell out of me b4
but i'm just looking for advice whether to change the whole centre console taking out the A/C.
Have in mind it gets really hot in summer times..

Anyone taken their A/C out?

i never use my A/C unit. just roll down the windows and drive fast.

How about putting in a satellite stacker and just using the head unit to control the stacker? I’m guessing it skips due to the angle it is installed at?

Mount a 6 stacker in the boot, or in the glove box. Would that solve the issue?

steering wheel, nothing! seat belt clips become branding irons in hot cars. Black car + black interior = hotter than hell.

I might try the stacker suggestion although i really wanted to install a dvd
deck with a 7" screen later on.
Rolling down the window helps sometimes but most of the time theres no wind!
It really does suck when you can't touch the steerin wheel and you go n BBQ ur hand with the seat belt AAHhhh!!

Get a dvd playing stacker, get a screen later if you can put it in the same place and use the stacker to run the dvds and the screen to show them.

I'm sure you can find a screen that will open how you need it to. Its also meant to be illegal to see a screen in your car as the driver so something down lower will help escape the police...

Thnx 4 the tip crusher, will definitly look into that, dvd stacker sounds good,
I've seen alot of people have the screen in the drivers view so i thought it was legal though ive heard about it being illegal. will find out about that to thnx.

Bloody rare to see an E30 these days let alone an E21. Good on you for keeping that thing alive.

might want to try over on bmwe21.net and see if anyone has one of the other consoles. They didnt all mount vertically, if you get lucky and can find one it would be an easy solution. Otherwise some sheet metal, a few brackets and you could replicate one. Some vinyl, a scalpel and some spray on adhesive would give you a good look/feel to replicate the original.

Yeah I looked up the other centre console bracket, can get it from Bmw,
but i think i'm gonna keep my A/C figure out a way to make it work with a stacker without costing me too much cash.
Problem is i still don't have my car back from the mechanics, getting an engine swap from an M20B23 to a M20B25 cos my engine died on me.
Mechanic saying he's having a few probs no details etc.
Time will tell newais,

I'm not an expert on car audio, when you go and look at stackers get someone from the shop, probably the installer to have a look at your current set up and ask if that the reason why you are having the troubles. They may have a different answer, and also make sure the head unit you have will accept and run a stacker.

Yeah actually had a few problems installing the first deck i bought, wiring is different to other cars, funny my deck doesn't turn off even with the key out,
only way to turn off is manually holding on to the off button.
Need a car audio person to have a look when i get it back...

dont have the acc+ wire connected properly. It should only be connected to a 12v ignition source that is live when the key is switched on.
