Modifications for 99 E39

Im just wondering what are some simple modifications I can make to my E39 to start heading in the direction of a full M5 upgrade?

by "full m5 upgrade" do you mean you want to turn it into an m5? or just sell it and buy an m5...? if its the latter, i wouldnt touch it. Wait for the M5.

Well....at least I have cleared one thing up...there are a lot of Captain Obvious' on this forum

Start by calling some of the bigger wreckers for prices on the M5 engine/drivetrain/ECU/wiring loom/brakes/etc. you could probably pick it all up as a conversion package if they have a donor car. M5 bodywork you could easily source from BMW parts.

Even though you probably don't want to hear this, it will be cheaper to buy an M5 to begin with. I saw one just the other week on carsales for $69k.

None of the above parts will come cheap and unless you can do the install yourself (I doubt it since you're asking) or are handy with bodywork you probably won't come out in front.

What year was this M5 you saw for $69k??

My problem is that I do not want an M5 older then say...umm...2002, so im looking at some serious dosh if I wanna buy one, and I have just bought this car for $26k...so a lil light in the wallett at the moment

As Aaron sid it would be cheper to buy an M5 than to convert a 5 series to M5 specs.

You can make it look like an M5 though ...

Buying an M5 straight up is the key, trying to make one is too hard. If you can't afford to buy one straight up you sure can't afford to put one together out of parts!

The driver of that M5 is a green p plater, on my way home from work i see him treating it like crap. Probs best to stay away.
