The 2002 Appreciation thread

Here are some pictures a guy posted on another forum. I thought I would share.

First BMW I ever was properly driven in was a yellow 2002 tii, full historic rally spec. Loved that car so very, very much. And if I wasn't so mechanically inept (well, actually, if I had the spare time) I'd love one as a second car

i love my 2002 turbo on gran turismo, very fun and tail happy car. would love one in real life, but it would surely be a money pit and i dont need 2 money pits in the driveway

my long term aim is to get a pre-1973 (circle tail light) 2002 Tii and either restore it, or race it. I can't get enough of them; they are just drop dead gorgeous.

Check out this immaculate example: http://news.caradisiac.com/Une-BMW-2002-Tii-neuve

And this one; a respray and minilites, and it looks a million bux.

I drive past a 2002 everyday. Its rusting, the chrome work is falling of, the paint is peeling. Every time i drive past it i want it, but i don't have the skills or financial backing to fix it. Its a real shame.

Due to this threads rebirth...

Do BMW enthusiasts hold the engine in the 2002's with the same regard as the E30 M3's and I guess any M3?

Would it be frowned upon to put a Toyota 2ZZ-GE, Honda B18C5 or Mazda MZR (i drive a Mazda have to throw it in there) just to upgrade the engine and increase performance a little. The first two engines would suit better, rev happy engines.
