S42 engine pics

Came across some rare pictures of the Motorsport S42 engine (based on the 318is M42 engine) and thought I'd share them.

Engine is sitting in a '95 spec ex-Cocetto Supertourer.. all yours for 65,000EU or about $105,000

Thats one of the late (96+ chassis) ones!

A good s42b20 does 150-160rwkw. Keep in mind thats on ELF 104MON fuel!
They have little torque below 4k rpm and generally get rebuilt (an endurance engine) after 1500-2000km. Titanium valves don't last long at 8200rpm!

Not for a street car!

See two in action battling it out at a local round of the Touring Car Challenge.

babbo - What does one of these motors rev too? I've heard they took them higher than 9500rpm

Was flicking through that '99 Bathurst 1000 book I bought on the Bathurst cruise, back then Paul Morris paid $150k for one of these engines form BMW M.. that's a lot of coin for 7 years ago!

Paul Morris has the coin to burn.

Visited his winery & his driving centre last year (Yes in that order)... very impressive.

There are still plenty of these engines about.

They were restricted to 8200rpm by a device fitted by the governing body.

They can rev to 9500 in their sprint spec allbeit not for long! Qualifying engines were given a hard time for one session and then pulled apart with many still good components thrown away!

I don't think he paid that much for a single engine! Thats a huge pile of gold coins!
