Interior fix ups

Decided to start fixing up a few things bothering me in my interior. Today I started with the rear parcel shelf, which had faded in the sun, going from anthracite to purple

Removal was an absolute b*tch of a job, everything has to come out including side trims, C pillar trims, window seals, seat bolsters etc. etc.

You can see the extent of the discolouration where the speaker grille overlaps

First I vacumed off loose dust and wiped it down with a damp cloth. I then applied two coats of Septone Plastic and Vinyl spray. I wasn't aware I could use this stuff until 01UDE told me last night, if you read the back of the can it states cloth and low pile carpets application is fine. I had some left over so I had a go at the bootlid lining too. For under 15 bucks and a few hours of stuffing around I'm pretty happy with the results, just hope it lasts

Tomorrow night I'm going to have a go at fixing the bubbled trim. Any suggestions on techniques or glues to use? An online write-up would be tops if anyone has one

Epoxy is prob. the best or "spray on glue" ( easier and very strong)
Fuller's Spray Bond ( I've done many interior work with that )

Depending on what condition the foam is between the vinyl and the backing board... if the foam is deteriorating when you re glue and press down that section will sit lower.
Good old Quick Grip contact cement works Amazingly on stuff like this where there is no load or excess strain on the parts.

I'm in the middle of retrimming my cloth door inserts with Blue leather, I've just stitched a new shift boot from the same. I'll post pics when i'm finished if anyone is interested.
Luke.

I've used some sort of interior glue once before and it didn't hold at all. The foam is in pretty good condition, it's just the dodgy glue that BMW used which failed. Not sure if Quick Grip will work for me, the vynal needs to be "stretched" and held in place so it there is no line or crease.

Postup the interior pics when you're done!

Rear trim panel is done - ended up using Locite Trim Adhesive to stick the vynal to the backing, pretty straight forward job. Just applied it to both sides and pressed it together. Adhesion is almost instant so you have to work quickly. As you push the two together you need to smoothen out any lumps of glue for a better result

Next:
- Repeat above for passenger side door trim
- Fix sagging glovebox
- Do something about the cracked speaker grilles. Is it true they're all once piece with the speaker?

Aaron, I'll be interested in fixing my sagging glovebox - a common problem found in E36.

I posted a thread early last year, Sagging glove box unfortunately had no success in fixing it though.

Nice post Aaron, I must agree that the bmw glue is disgraceful. I currently have a problem with the thin grey trim that goes around all the door seals on the body. Ive seen this with allot of E46 coupes.. Ill try that Loctite Trim adhesive. Hopefull it withstands heat when the car gets hot in the sun. Thansk Aaron
