Turbo E30 M3 Build

Well I have finally finished planning the M3 rebuild on paper. As some may know I detonated it at the track over Easter. I have taken the last 3 or so months to evaluate the damage (not that bad) and work out a plan for the rebuild so that it doesn’t go bang again in a hurry.

The car will be off the road for about the next 12 or so months whilst I source all parts I need from here and overseas. I will also be away from home from January to July 2006 with my work so I have time on my side so to speak. At then end of this I hope to have a very strong, fast track car. Simon Harrex from RX Automotive is going to be doing the rebuild. Simon is my mechanic and he recently got 500hp from a turbo’d 635i he built. The same one that is in the latest PerformanceBMW magazine.

So here is the list that is going into the rebuild.

Block bored out to 2.5 litre.
EVO III Motorsport Crank.
Pauter Forged Rods.
JE Forged 11.25:1 CR Pistons. (currently it is 10.5:1 and the EVO III’s are 10.2:1)
Head will ported and cleaned up to take the valve train.
Schrick Cams – 284 inlet and 276 exhaust. (stock is 248/248)
Motorsport EVO III valves and valve springs.
Motec M400 EMS.
48mm EVO III Throttle bodies and EVO III injectors with a Carbon Fibre Airbox.
Sump Baffle.
Larger oil cooler.
Larger, alloy radiator. (I have seen 2 break where the piping connects due to being hardened plastic)
All new hosing.
Light Weight Flywheel.
Upgraded front brakes.
CR gearbox.
Full cage.

There are few other surprises and I will add them as they eventuate. I am pulling the motor this weekend.

Cheers
Dave

12 months is a long time between drinks - how come its gonna take that long? Will you be doing any of the pulling down of the engine or are you just delivering it to Simon?

It'll be a serious track car by the time its all done!

I will pull the engine and strip it of its auxillaries and then hand it to Simon Harrex to rebuild.

This is awesome, seriously has me salivating over what the final product will be.

Aesthetically the car is sorted... a bit of sting under the bonnet will seriously make it an e30 m3 to die for.

Keep us updated with each step - four our sake, and for your own I gues, it would be great if you could have a photo-journal going.

i got a nice soft spot for the e30m3.

Do you have a power/torque/rpm target, or is it too early to determine.
Will be good to follow progress of buildup.

Should be more powerful but bullet proof right? Last longer than a new oem (if you could get one)?

Sounds like a good plan to me as long as the $$$$ make sense.

Not really chasing HP figures. I would assume perhaps maybe around the 250+ HP mark. What it does need to be is strong and needs to pull hard from mid range right up to top end as thats where it will get used 90% of the time.

I came close. Although on a serious note, I did come very close to using a S38B38 (3.8 litre E34 M5 motor) but the S14B25 rebuild is something I have wanted to do from the day I got the car.

Dave it will definately be a lot stronger. The $$$ never make sense, but then again, this is the mid life crisis I had to have.
