| 318is Supercharged Hi people, im fairly new to this forum so apologies if im posting this where i shouldnt be.... i have an e36 318is and i want more power out of it...i posted a similar message on the main forum and someone forwarded me to Bavaria cars....to turbocharge it they want $18000!!!! and SC $6500..... Does anyone know a cheaper option? |

| sell it an by a turbocharged jap car....unfortunately there arent many things besides the two options you mentioned that are going provide sufficient gains in power. You could work the internals of the engine but the increase in power isn't that impressive to be worth spending your money on it. The 318's are more of a show pony. Put nice wheels and lower it slightly and it will look as if its meant to go fast or just put big ass chromies and dump it for the "bling" effect. I personally prefer the first option. |

| send 94318i4dr a PM... he's doing a custom turbo project on his and it's almost done.

| I really like the look of the superchargers on the M42 motors - tidies up the engine bay just nicely. The power increase doesn't appear that much (200hp I think....which is about 50% increase on the standard 135hp) but this should be good for getting the big lump of a car up and running. More info here for those that are interesed... Supercharger - M42 If I had the money this is the way I would go for my 318is. |

| Moving forums... $6500 is a great deal on a bolt on SC, they normally run 4-5k more than that. 200HP from a 1.8 is decent enough though, just keep in mind thats with the stock 10:1 compression internals, stock fuel supply and stock tuning. (doubt theres an ECU in there?) |

| In all honesty if you think $18000 for a turbo and $6500 for a supercharger (installed) is not already cheap for what you are getting, I think modifying BMW's is maybe not for you.

| Sounds very cheap to me! I remember reading about a Turbo E36 318is in Speed magazine (think he used to be/is a member here) and the magazine said it cost $50k for a custom job, so given that it sounds VERY cheap to me however as others have said if I were you I'd be using the extra cash to get a 328i or M3 |

| I can second that, my E30's cost ALOT more than the these figures being talked about. Though everything is custom and it's had a full interior redo, paint, wheels and bavaria's standard build up which includes everything. Erik could attest as to how large bavaria's customer's files are. I've got pages and pages of receipts for every part they've installed on my car and I'm missing some of the invoices. It's literally sitting in a folder in my desk and it's bursting open. You defiantly can see where your money goes. Though I've had the entire motor rebuilt a few times with stronger parts as I've upgraded along the way with bigger turbo setup's, relocating the expansion tank, custom conrods, ringed block etc. But ultimately, you get what you pay for. Not trying to put you off or anything, but 18k is a very good deal. I enjoy driving the E30 probably more than the M3. It's defiantly a HELL of a lot quicker. And from memory Allen's car used to do in M3's also. But you have to do what you think you'll a) get the most enjoyment out of and b) something that you can live with day in and day out. But turboing will cost you money, maybe the supercharger kit is an easier way to go. It definatly won't make anywhere near the power of bavaria's turbo jobs but it's probably much easier to turn back to standard if and when you want to sell the car (if you wanted to sell it standard). First rule of modifying cars is realise that whatever you spend your not going to get back further down the road. Kenny has a thread here about the supercharger kits from bavariacars ASA Supercharger kits now available at Bavariacars |
