Shit yeah, that's great Alan. Does that RT say 0.005? Hehe.

The 1.822 short time is what got you the improvement, and that's a fucking stormer of a launch on non drag radials (and with a 315 diff). Can you eke another bit out of your 60' time and crack a 12 second pass with the car as is?

That also makes you quicker than Raima's supercharged 318ti compact (his car ran 13.39x @ 101 MPH from memory). Ben Babich did a mid 14 second pass in his old setup (NA six E36 sedan).

Then there's Franky's turbo E30 13.199 @ 112.00
And Erik's 2002 turbo with 12.739 @ 114.80 MPH (with 2.100 60' time).

Glad to see another keen drag racer making progress!

actually R/T is .805, they nearly called the night off due to strong cross winds at 3/4 track, so there is still a couple of mph in it as is

I think Alan has a few tweaks (ie not stock).

The best S50B32 powered E36 M3 pass I've watched is a 13.7 at somewhere around 100 MPH.

I've heard people say you can run a 12 second pass in a stock S50B32 M3 but I'd have to see that to believe it. You'd need a really good short time to make up for tha lack of horsepower.

Now with a tinload of weight reduction, a different diff ratio, good rubber, etc (ie good traction and optimum total gearing) you'd expect to get there eventually.

The extent of performance enhancing mods for drags are some kind of unknown chip, alloy flywheel and a much freer flowing muffler, maybe you could also count short shift kit. most mods I have done have been to enhance cornering. I also run Khumo ecsta 700 tyres on rear, only 225/45/17's, but they seem to hook up pretty well

nice work alan.
Those khumo 700's are a pretty handy tyre

Is there anyone in Aust running a sub 13sec pass with an NA M3, either 3.0 or 3.2ltr (esp one that hasnt had the cam cover off).

If not i wonder who will be first to get there.

I ran a 14.7 @ 95mph at WSID in 2004.
That was with my stock e36 325 engine with a rough vehicle weight of 1400kg incl driver on street tires.

Lets see what the compact can do!
Aaron did a 13.318 @ 105.9mph on the same night and he has roughly the same amount of hp that I do now.

Delete this post once there is an answer to it, but I've had difficulty working out how to calculate rwkw using the bhp and kw figures that car manufacturers give you.

Everyone says it's the rwhp and rwkw that matter?? Is that true?

If a car puts down 320bhp and 350nm of torque (ie. a late E36 M3) what kind of rwhp/rwkw-age are you looking at??

Only power to the rear wheels matters, and that you get from a dyno machine.

A 321 bhp E36M3 with S50B32 will get 220-240 rwhp. The factor that is used is 1.36 (36%).

So if someone tells you 321 bhp and you want to know rwhp, then 321 / 1.36 = 236 rwhp.

Also bear in mind that American dynos (DynoJet) read 15-20% higher than Dyno Dynamics machines used in Australia.

So when a Yank says his car has 500 bhp, then 500 / 1.2 = 416 and 416 / 1.36 = 306 rwhp for example.

i find the dyno variation is so great i really only use it for the purpose of seeing what benifit your mods are doing. Dyno dynamics have a "shootout" mode which from all accounts is probably the best comparison of readings from dyno's done in different locations, and different occasions.

Unfortunalty there is no magic linear "K" factor for converting dyno kW to flywheel kW, due to the huge variations of readings. Even in the "shootout" mode from what i have observed over time is the "K" factor is more like a semi logarithmic curve. Cars with very low power (say 30kW - the poor sods who actually have to drive the things) have a greater than 75% chassis loss factor, whereas cars with very high power (say 750kW) seem to have around 10% chassis loss.

Bloody confusing
