kumho ecsta v700's, 225/45/17, about 5 years old, next step is try some drag radials, see if I can get it lower again, by the way, 12.9 was with 1.87 60' and 3.15 diff (now with 3.64) so definately more time to come out of it yet

Errol, and this is completely a shot in the dark here, how hard is it to remove all the weight from the cabin?

Front seats (run 1 lightweight bucket), rear seat? Trim pieces? Glovebox? Shifter console? Take carpet/trim out of the boot?

Perhaps get a pair of space savers on the front end?

Perhaps removing weight could improve your times outta the hole as there'll be less inertia to move?

Probably easiest from what ive seen done on other M3s would be rear seat, front seat, some interior pieces, door panels etc. I've already changed the rear exhaust box which has saved 11kg. Im sure the heavy 19s arent helping either.

Stock weight of a E46 M3 is around 1585 kilos with a full tank of juice.

A set of 4.10 gears would add a few mph as well. Mine picked up 2-3 mph on average. Haven't been out again to see how much of a difference the colder weather would make.

Weight reduction is the cheapest option.

Errol's replaced the stock muffler with a aftermarket unit. The stock one weigh's 24 kilos, I think he said the aftermarket one is around 10 kilos lighter. So say 10 kilos reduction

Here's a quick rundown of replacement or removeable weight reduction for E46 M3's.

Dual mass flywheel stock weight, 12.1 kilos. Replacement, aluminum TCK flywheel. 2.7 kilo's. Reduction 9.4 kilos
Stock clutch 6.5 kilos. Replacement clutch (Sach) 1.8 kilos. Reduction 4.7 kilos
Seats, front. 29.8 kilos (2x) 57.7 kilos total. Replacement Recaro seats 7.5 kilos each (2.x) 15 kilos. Reduction 42.7 kilos
Rear seats- Bottom 6.0 kilos, rear back left 5.8 kilos, rear back right 11.4 kilos. Reduction 23.2 kilos
Door trims front 8.1 kilos (2x) 16.2 kilos; Door trims rear 3.2 kilos (2x) 6.4 kilos Reduction 22.6 kilos
Boot, side trim 1 kilos (2x) 2 kilos; Carpet 3.1 kilos, Boot floor 2.9 kilos, Storage cover 1.4 kilos, Top and mobililty kit, 4.0 kilos, Battery 22.8 kilos. Lightweight replacement battery 8 kilos. Total reduction 28.2 kilos
Front carpet 5.2 kilos, rear carpet 6.2 kilos. Reduction 11.4 kilos

Red is easily removed and doesn't affect the apperance of the car. It's also easily replaced, the sandy coloured one's are things you'd really have to be serious about (IMO).

Total reduction 108.8 kilos

Total reduction 142.8 kilos

just a Q, can taking weight out (esp of the rear) be counter productive to loss of traction. Talking spare wheel, tools, boot carpet etc

It's always a good idea to remove weight for drag racing.

Lightening the flywheel would be nice for drag racing, but lightening it that much, wouldn't it affect every day use?
Don't shoot me down..

I have an 8.5Lb alloy flywheel in mine instead of 29Lb stock unit, towed an E21 on a car trailer back from Adelaide no probs, drive around Melbourne no probs, highly recomended
