What is excess run off?

Was getting my new wheels fitted yesterday and received a call saying they wouldn’t put them on, as they had excess run off. So what exactly is excess run off?

maybe it was meant to be run out? excess run out? It generally refers to the movement of the hub, something is worn, maybe wheel bearings.

Err, fitting wheels. If they were new i doubt it very much. Id say there is something funky in the hub.

What did they tell you they could do about it?

Surely if they knew they were new wheels they would of advised you to send them back, or a problem with the hub, how to rectify the situation. I still can't comprehend how australian business focus on problems, and give up. Everyone uses the term we have solutions for you or your company, but as soon as something remotely different to a simple task they give up. Their goal should of been to fit your new wheels nomatter what, even if they had to be sent back, or explain what had to be done to get them on.

Not to stereotype tyre fitters, but they are in that job for a reason, they arnt rocket scientists, my sistes bf works for Bob Jane and coudlnt even tell me my caster rod was missing a bush and bolt, his sugestion was a wheel alignment after me experiencing problems such as THE WHEEL SWINGING BETWEEN ARCH!!!. Instead i went over the steering myself and found the parts to be missing. So who do you trust these days?

Does he mean that when u put the wheel on the hub it moves up and down with a couple of mm's? If so tell the numbskull to measure up and order you some hub centric rings to be made.

There are differing levels of tyre fitting workshops though. A tyre fitter isnt a mechanic, he isnt usually even trained as a tyre fitter, nor has he done any courses on alignments. It's all automated these days, put in the car details, recall the data from the machine, adjust until numbers are in the green and thats good enough. I wouldnt expect much from bob jane, or similar places like goodyear etc. It's just from experience they hire young blokes for decent wages without needing any formal training so they know what they are doing. I doubt many of them know how to set up a car, it's no more evident when i told someone over the net to go to his tyre place for an alignment and ask them todo a caster swing (checking to see if something was damaged because he had hit a kerb) because i had a feeling it wasnt tracking correctly (toe out on turns). Bloke looked like a stunned mullet then said, what would you need one of those for. Heh, if you saw the front wheels.....

I do my own alignments usually if i have time at work, if not, i get the best bloke in south qld onto the case. Great prices on tyres, and he really knows his shit when setting up suspension and steering. I never go anywhere else now Everybody in the trade or in auto clubs in the area knows him.
