Alpina E30

I hear the Alpina e30's are something special. Can someone fill me in 50 words or less why? And how rare are they, compared to a e30 m3 for example? The reason I ask is there was one parked in a carpark outside the Brisbane Motorshow last night and I would like to know more about them since i'm new to owning an e30.

Thanks.

I am not sure how rare they are compared to the E30 M3. There is 2 Alpina E30's in the BMW Club Queensland that I know of. Both have the certificate of authenticity form Alpina.

Here's one of them. Its also for sale for $22,000.

Alpina is an official BMW tuning company. They offer wheel, suspension, interior and engine upgrades etc. for most BMW models. They started off by building BMW race cars which then lead into them building brand new Alpina modified BMW's for road.

You can buy brand new Alpina BMW's from them in Europe (no longer available in Australia) and you can buy some Alpina parts through your spare parts.
Check out the official Alpina website here.

i dont believe alpina ever made a 4 cyl model after the 2002.

This site has a good rundown of most of the models:

Alpenis

cant tell u of exact numbers in AU....above, Dave mentioned 2 in QLD, and i know of 2 genuine ones in SA, one c2 2.7 and one c2 2.5(or maybe a c1, cant remember)..so there arent too many around....one of the SA ones was for sale last yeah IIRC.

My understanding is that ///Motorsport Division would be like the HSV of BMW. Alpina and AC Schnitzer are the official tuning companies of BMW. As Aaron stated, they started by building racing BMW's and now supply products for most BMW's.

Alpina would be more like how CSV is to Holden I say, as HSV is an in-house operation.

Id doubt ///Motorsport to be like HSV.. M's are made in the same factory are they not?

Like the Audi S cars and A cars... Same thing..

RS cars are made on a different line and their engines come from Cosworth but...

I always wondered what was so special about Alpina so thanks for clearing that up for me too

Nope, they are just aftermarket tuners. Only Alpina and ACS are official
