Exclamation DTM Australia Car of the Month October 2003

DCR62's E36 318i

David picked up his 1994 Alpine White III 5 speed 318i in May 2002.

Being completely stock, Dave kicked off his mods with a set of new 17" E46 M3 Euro rims shod with sticky Dunlop Le Mans 225/45ZR17 tyres. To compliment the new wheel and tyre package, a set of 40mm Kings lowering springs were matched to Bilstein shocks to give the car a meaner stance and improve handling.

Turning to appearance mods, a genuine BMW M bumper with lower splitter was added, as were Kamei eyelids and black grilles to toughen up the front of the car.

The M-Tech theme was continued onto other parts of the car with the addition of M mirrors and M door molds. The latter is complete with the very rare "BMW Motorsport International" door badges, found exclusively on the E36 M3 LTW and GT models from the USA and Europe.

The body mods continue with a spoiler being added to the rear of the car, clear front and side indicators and a window tint to finish things off.

Just like the exterior of the car, the interior has also undergone a full transformation with David adding fully tailored Marino sheepskin seat covers for the front and back seats and a comprehensive in car entertainment system.

Leading the installation is a Blaupunkt CD30 Head Unit and Blaupunkt RC-10 Remote Steering Wheel controls, sourcing music from a Blaupunkt CDC-AO8 10 stack CD Changer.

The front kick panels are now housing Blaupunkt ODC54 5 ¼” splits and Blaupunkt Odxa402 4” oaxials are found in the rear.

A Coustic 321QE 4 Channel Amp currently powers the stereo, however David is awaiting a Coustic 241SE 2 Channel Amp from the USA to run his 12W3v2 JL Audio Sub.

Some of you may of noticed a lack of performance mods to the car, its not that David hasn't gotten around to it yet, its just that he feels they aren't neccessary.

After competitively racing a Suzuki GSR750R for 10 years, carrying out performance modifications on the 318i would never be able to compete with that. After spending many years in the police force driving Highway Patrol pursuit cars and bikes, David already knows a thing or two about high performance machinery!

With Mr. and Mrs. DCR62 currently designing their new home 25 minutes out of Brisbane, modding of the 318i has now slowed down.
In the near future David would like to finish the car off with the addition of M sideskirts and an M rear bumper, as well as a set of red/clear tail lights. A new set of wheels is also on the cards, with David tossing up between 18" Hartge Classics or BBS CH's.
Installation of a Blaupunkt DVD/Navigation System is also planned as being the finishing touch for the stereo system.

After completion, the car is due to be sold, with David planning to replace it with either an E30 or E36 M3, however he has recently laid his eyes on a beautiful E34 540i...

Very clean Dave...

I know this probably sounds stupid as, but I was sitting at a cafe on King Street in Sydney today and a car looking exactly like yours rolled past...Queensland plates and all!!!

Am I seeing things, or is there an imposter trying to take your spot??

Are those M3 mirrors meant to sit out like that? I mean against the frame - they seem to be thicker than the frame of your car.

Nice one Dave.

Kinda makes sense to keep the car now that you've made all those mods. You might as well enjoy them rather than giving em straight to someone else to enjoy

Is that the Toombul centre BTW?

Thanks Simon. I will keep the car until I find the exact car I am looking for. I am in no hurry so I will bide my time. The pics were actually taken at Carindale Shopping Centre.

Real clean, nice car. It would be a pity to let it go now. And nice writeup too! These features are a good idea I reckon. Helps to get to know other members and their rides. How about a shot of each member with the feature though? I want to see the fat **** next to his car! ;-P

Great Write up guyz! Dave your BMR looks Awesome! You have Obviously put a lot of Effort into Modding it.It looks IMMACULATE.I was just wondering at what time did you have to park it on top of ''Westfield's Shopping Centre'' to be the Only car up on the Roof Looks like 5 in the afternoon! That sure as hell would never happen in a Sydney ''Westfield's Rooftop Carpark'' More like! You'd Drive around for 20min's trying to get Parking
