Listen to what morerevsm3 has to say as he uses his car to its full potential.

Please take what torqu124 says with a grain of salt.

Buy the youngest and the lowest KM M3 you can afford, but PLEASE remember 3.2L genuine M3 front brake rotors cost $1 thousand a set, its not a cheap car to maintain like the falcon is.

keep that in mind

What you are doing there with the exhaust and muffler is what BMW has done in fact with the 3.2 motor from 1996 on... It already has a better flowing exhaust all around than the old one.

They improved the breathing of the engine in order to get extra 26KW and 30Nm, plus dual Vanos , etc.

The later M3 is hard to modify to get more power reliably... These cars are not the perfect drag cars. Get a VL turbo if that's what you want.

The M3 is the sum of all parts, driving pleasure, connecting with the road in the twisties and handling. And let's not forget the soundtrack

I just hate to see nice cars like the M3 modified and raped only to be sold for nothing a year down the track. Keep it original and enjoy it.

But again, each to it's own
again you are talking shit, the 3 litre and 3.2 have the same muffler, my friend has a 3.2 and done mostly the same mods as me, and makes nearly the same power (mine is 199.6 rwkw, his 3.2 is 196.1 rwkw) my car is log booked for improved production, I won over 2 litre IP the first time out, all the quickest E36 M3's on circuits are 3 litre, buy the best car you can find for what you are willing to pay, regardless of 3 litre or 3.2.

oh, and an S3 Audi is not even in the same league, never seen one get close to 1:50 around Phillip Island (and there are plenty of M3's quicker than mine)...

i have noticed there a a few 96' plus m3s for sale with the 6 speed manual. would this be a better optrion as i am more keen on the 3.2L and from what i have been told the 6 speed smg cost around 10gs to fix and one with over 100thou ks are goin to need fixing.

over the last 2 months or so that i have been watchin the m3s on sales on sites such as carsales.com and uniquecarsales.com and a few other and i havent really seen any new ones appear or many sold or taken of the market. at first it was a toss up between 3L 5 speed man or 3.2L 6 speed auto(smg) but i have noticed a few with the 6 speed manuals in the 3.2L. there is one with quite a few ks on it but has had the brake rotors replaced and some other things done and is pretty cheap and there is another with alot less ks yet it is white. ci would prefer a black one but i dont mind the silver and light bluebut not white ive had to many white cars

Buy the newest and the lowest KM car you can afford.

I would go with lowest KM first if the 2 cars are the same in terms of being looked after and having the same service history...

ok thye piks worked i had to log out to see em ???

well anyways its got very low ks, fully original 3 litre 5 speed which seem to be the more desirable ones. i wasnt sure on the colour at first but when i seen it i was like then i seen the interior and i was like and then i drove it and then i was like . almost shat myself when i punched it in second around a corner. there doesnt appearto be much wrong with it all i seen was a small dint in the pasangers door, a sracth on the spoiler a few scuff marks on the black parts, the average wear on the drivers seat and the gear nob was a bit worn out that pretty much it

Hey slow down boy.

We never discussed track here? OK, I saw 2 of them side by side, the 3.0 l and the 3.2, and the exhaust was definitely different on the 3.0 L , maybe it was changed or aftermarket ? I did drive that one also, and it also sounded different, so I apologize if I misinformed the community. I stand corrected here.

From the seat of my pants, the 3.2's I have driven before I bought mine felt better than the 95 I tested ... Just my personal opinion. This is not a thorough review done on a race track, but the feel of the car on a public road.

I apologize if I hurt your feelings... the 3.2 with the 6 speed feels better on the road for me. I don't care how quick you are on the track, how many RWKW your car has or how many plastic cups you took home buddy. I am just passing on an opinion.

I see now you are THE BMW authority on all boards in Australia, one has to watch if you agree first..

Hey man, Congrats. Enjoy, they are really nice cars. I love it red, I hate my silver color... If you need any tips or help on polishing and waxing, post back.

Cheers

Actually, forget about the track for a second.
My A3 will have legs over any M3 e36 in straight line, no matter how modded, as long as it is still naturally aspirated.

I am happy for anyone to test and prove me wrong.
