OT: free 24/7 calling to friends on Orange

Sorry this is so OT - but I am looking at changing providers (GSM) and saw this info on the Orange site:

"FREE 5 mins calls** to other Orange mobile numbers 24 hours, 7 days "

I thought this was a great intiative, especially since a quick chat is rarely more than 5 mins - cheaper and easier than an equivelant SMS.

Has anyone had experience with Orange?

Yeah, Leanne had it before, not sure if she still does, but it wasn't very handy. She didn't have many friends on Orange, but the only benefit was if she was in a certain area, she would be charged a local call to a land line.

Yeah - with number retention it's not that bad idea!

24c for 10 mins to a land line 24/7!

BUT i think it is a CDMA network only - checking this out now.

Orange is Hutchinson Telecommunications which is Cable & Wirless (Hong Kong Company).......they use Optus Phone lines.......they were ok in reception and all but yeah...CDMA only now i think becoz of Teltra and Voda is 2 big to compete with!

They will be Australia's only 3G provider in a couple of weeks

Was actually looking at their reception area - only concentrated around the city - so if you drive to melbourne then there would be no reception - kinda scary if your car breaks down...

yeah i only experienced Orange in the city....was fine ...dont know about country.......do people have phones in Melbourne??? when did this happen? jk.

Orange and 3G? True.....saw the video phones at work...pretty dodgy in video speed but the thing that might kill 3G is the price...

will be about 3 times the rate of a normal voice call.....

should be okay for people who call sex lines and 1902 numbers as those ones are like $3 - $5 a minute!
