Intake and Gas Mileage

I dont know too much about cars, and was thinking about getting intake for my car. Only problem is that my cousin says intake will kill your gas mileage. Is this true, and if so, why? Thanks.

it wont kill it, but it may, ever so lightly, increase the mileage by a bit. not a big concern tho as its better for your car to get some better, fresher air in there once in a while.
