How Long Does The Battery Last In A BMW?

Damn, stalled out my car parking and went to restart it, it cranked once and died. Can't friggin believe the car won't start when I'm parked half way on the street with my front sticking out. It needs to crank like 6 times before it fires up, I only had enough juice for like 4 cranks before it fizzed out. Someone gave me a jump and I was on my way. You'd think the battery would give you some kind of warning before yakking on you suddenly. Is this typical of an old battery or is there something else wrong? How long does a battery typically last? Also, where the heck is the battery in my 94 3.25? Is in on the right near the bumper or on the right near the rear seats?

3-4 years depending on abuse

My last two batteries lasted 4 years to the day. Battery is on the rear passenger side, just inside the trunk, near the bumper.

i would say 4-5 years is the average. i good rule of thumb is to replace your battery every 4-5 years regardless if it has died on you or not.

The battery in this car has lasted longer than *any* battery that I have ever had. 7 1/2 years. It failed to start this morning, after sitting for a week. I am not sure yet if it is really ready to give up, but I think I should replace it just because it has been so long

$160 for a genuine BMW battery doesn't seem so bad if the next one lasts as long, but I am exploring my options. How long have you had your Optima HDK? Does it have the drain tube for trunk mounting?

Bernman (baby needs a new battery...)
