BMW safety is one of the main reasons why I currently drive an E36. My friend Jeremy was taking a left turn on a green left arrow, and was T-boned by a fullsize Bronco travelling well over 60 mph. As you can see from the pic, his 328is took the hit amazingly well, evidenced by him still being alive, necessitating only a temporary stint on crutches.

The paramedics who arrived on the scene told him they expected to find a fatality when they saw the car - but that although any passenger he might have had would have been pretty torn apart, that they would probably have lived as well. They also made the comment that if he had been in any kind of less-sturdy, similarly sized car, that he would have been dead without question.
