Thats a neat site with some good video. I grabbed his real massive 15 minutes at maximum resolution before he dumped them.

The E31 suffered from being released when no one wanted to part with their money. Beautiful to an extream and powerful as hell. They were never intended to be used for anything other than "big pimpin'" on the highway at 155 with the air and cruise on. The 12 that they used was highly tempermental and didn't take well to tinkering or abuse but when it ran right you can balance a 5 mark coin egde wise on the plenum cover. -see video at above site- Hows that for smooth baby????

Rober DeNiro live about 20 minutes from me and he's overtaken my ass a few times on "The Twisy Mountian Road" of rt 44-55. He has a few 8's but I've only seen the red and the green.

you gotta point.....but like the dood in the above post mentioned that V12 iz a lil bitch to tune....itz pulled right outta the 750 so i dont think it waz meant to be messed with too much...you can get more power outta the ///M V8 than outta that V12 (without a S/C OR T/C).Nowack iz squeezin 520HP outta the Z8 ALL NA!!...IMO if you got the $$$ to have and mod an 8er might as well go for the top....

i love the 8er... a topless black 850csi rolls here, ive seen it out twice. once i was driving and got a whiplash almost from turning so fast the other time i just stopped and looked in awe. they stopped making it due to sales i belive. it was DEATHLY expensive.
and to make it ligher get CF hood doors and trunk

BMW never made a convertible 8 series... well they made a couple
prototypes but never actually sold a convertible 8.... if the one
you saw was a droptop 8 then it was a custom job...

the really sad thing iz that BMW made a few prototype M8s...500HP V12......they were planned to go into production.....but the cost on one of those woulda been SKY FUKKIN HIGH...and they had a hard enuff time selling the regular ones.....ahhh what a shame...

Actualy, BMWAG only pounded out 1 M8 prototype and while they still have it; you will never see it. It's locked up tight. It was never really a road worthy car anyway, no headlamps and pretty much help together with bubblegum and prayer;


The BMW 850CSi is a detuned version of the M8 which has never been produced and remained a prototype only. The M8 should have been built in a consequently lightweight manner in order to be a 'Ferrari-Killer'. The specially developed 550 hp engine has never been used except in the prototype - of which only one exists. But with the support of McLaren the M8 engine was transformed into the power plant of the McLaren F1 super sports car. At the time of development of the M8 there was virtually no market for such a car, so the BMW manager cancelled the project.
The M8-Prototype is perhaps the best-kept secret of BMW. Absolutely no one must see it or can get information, by order from the general manager himself. Questions from motorsport magazines remain unanswered as well. The car is locked away in the so-called Giftschrank, which could be translated as 'poison-storage'. According to BMW it is hidden behind lots of boxes anyway and will be destroyed in the near future as the 8 series doesn't exist any more and neither a successor.

The Prototype has never been road safe (even the headlights were missing as you can see in the picture) and was only loosely patched together, which is the reason why it is not presented in their museum. It's not even good for that ...says BMW.

Yes, the papers of an 850CSi say, it's an M8, but that's not of much use if you know what it could have been. What the S70 engine is capable of speaks for itself. See the world record run of the McLaren F1. McLaren thinks they could get 1000 hp at 9500 or 10000 rpm from the engine.

S70/1 about 6000 ccm 550 hp, 48V(?), M8-Prototyp 1990
S70/2 6064 ccm 627 hp, 48V, McLaren F1 1993
