Dude, the worst thing you could do to the value of an 850CSi is put a body kit on. The car has historical value being so rare and expensive and being the first MV12, unless you count the S70/2. Using a body kit will mean you'll never be able to put it in any type of serious concours if you decide to make it a real cherry, besides, ZeeMax isn't really in BMW taste.

I hear what your saying, but that's just me!
Don't forget I do have the E30M3 with 45k (now) miles on her.
In the Zemax wide-body-kit, I'd Hooch that sucker up, minus any wing type ornamentation. And when I'm done playing with it, I'll decommision it back to stock (back to cherry )!

The 850 has to be the best looking BMW I have seen. From the very 1st time I saw one I wanted it, never thought I would own one. I have had 2 the first was a 1992iA, that was totalled and now I have the 1995 CSi. The 4WS that Josh was talking about earlier is like the 4WS on the 1990-1992 *I THINK* Honda Prelude Si. Magnus I love that Zeemax widebody kit as well but from what I have heard they don't sell the kit.

I have the normal 850i and love it...can't imagine a CSI though, that will be trick! I have seen a twin turbo 850 before, I think from Racing Dynamics.

My next purchase will be a Tornado R30 from Racing Dynamics. It has a M5 engine giving 450 HP, 19" magneseum rims, Kevlar rotors, frame stiffened, tricked suspension, and the works inside, total of $135. Only special ordered from germany though, I spoke to the owner already.

Your collection of cars is quite small...

I work in parts and service at a BMW dealership and I asked the mechanic why there are always some there and he said they have lots of problems. He said they are in the shop more than any other BMW. He said even if he worked there and got discounts it's still not worth the money. Just thought I would share. I always have wanted one though. No flames please

It's only not worth the money if you don't enjoy it or because you don't make enough money to own it. The 8 series have been known to have some computer problems, but seeing as the engines in the 8 series are in other dependable models, it shouldn't be more of a problem than most older Bimmers. I can attest to the fact that BMWs in their middle ages are a fortune to maintain, there is a period when basically everything is going to need refreshing. Once over that, it is no more expensive than most old luxury cars. It is true though that labor on this car is more expensive because of an extremely cramped engine compartment and the CSi's V12 isn't the same as the one in 750iL, simply because the CSi's is a more highly tuned one. Older BMW 8 cylinders are notorious for high maintenance costs and I'm sure this will be the same with the V12. Magnus, it is very simple, if spending anywhere from 3-10k in repairs will break your bank, you will either be broke or have a car that gets dust in your garage waiting for you to get the funds. The 850CSi, unlike the normal 850 and 840 is a bonified exotic, regardless of what people tell you. It fits all the requirements, it's low, superwide, impractical and bloody expensive. It's a fantastic car and a real collectors item if you manage to hold on to it. Keep her Zaino'ed and in perfect condition and you've got a show car. Unless you want to spend major cash keeping her up, you'll only want to drive her on cool sunny days or on the weekends. It's a great car and have fun. BTW, if you want to boost performance, you can really lighten the interior significantly, but this will decrease the value unless you restore it to original at the end.

I have spent major money on my M already so I know what it takes. As for garaging, I pay $350 a month now, and I drive it once a week. It's all about Mass transit here in Manhattan. So I'm saying yes, both cars will be seeing alot of garage time, since don't drive in the snow or salt anyway.

An 850CSi will be probably 50% more expensive to maintain, but I know that with a cherry M3 like yours you know all the ins and outs of maintaining a classic BMW. I hope you get one, they are sweet looking, especially in silver, there's one at the dealer here in SB, beautiful.

Someday here too....

I just love the 8 series especially the 850csi.

Magnus, why not get a 1991 850i 6 speed, but the Zeemax kit on it, order some deep dish six spokeds, and send the car to Dinan for Twin Turbo treatment? I'd say that's $30,000 for the car and $30,000-$40,000 for the mods. So $60,000-$70,000 for a 700hp beast with a fresh engine and bodywork.

BTW: I believe Dinan strokes the 850i to 5.7 for their turbo so getting a CSI doesn't help.
