i whant to buy an 8 series tell me please what is better. 840 or 850 (thanks)

The better engine is the 840i.
The problem from the 850i is overheating.
The most broken engines are 850i.

Both cars are speed limit 250 km/h

840i has a 4.4 litre and a 4.0litre engine.
4.4litre is the M62B44 engine
4.0litre is the M60B40 engine

850i has a 5litre M70B50 engine
850ci has a 5,4litre M73B54 engine

840i 4.0 286HP 5800rpm, max torque 400, max rpm 6200
840i 4.4 286HP 5700rpm, max torque 420, max rpm 6200

850i 5.0 300HP 5200prm, max torque 450, max rpm 6000
850ci 5.4 326HP 5000rpm, max torque 490, max rpm 6000

accerlation:
840i 4.0 0 - 100km/h 6.9sec manuell gear box
7.4sec automatic

840i 4.4 0 - 100km/h 6.6sec manuell gear box
7.0sec automatic

850i 5.0 0 - 100km/h 6.8sec manuell gear box
7.4sec automatic

850ci 5.4 0 - 100km/h 6.3sec automatic

You see, the 840i 4.4 is faster than the 850i.
I would buy the 840i 4.4. It's the better engine.

i find an 840 (96-97) silver look AC/schnitzer and i don't know what engine he have 4.0 or 4.4 ? (and he put a new engine)?

You can look in the registration document, or in the tax assessment.
4.0 is cheaper than the 4.4.
That's the way in Germany I would do.
Or you can go to your BMW dealer with the engine number and
the car serial number. Your dealer can look in the computer which engine it is.
