....turbo concept, 2002 turbo, and that old turbo'd seven. Also, don't forget about the long lines of turbo-diesels. BMW has done turbos in the past and may even do it in the future with [and this may be wrong, but I'm saying it anyway] the rumored 335i engine [3.0L turbo]. Sure, FI would never be incorporated into an M series car, but it doesnt mean BMW couldn't make a turbo-moster.

im not say they couldn't/ haven't done turbos, but from what i've read in magazines and online the current bmw engineers don't like the idea of just strapping on a turbo/supercharger like mercedes and audi do, they would rather go the NA route to make their power...

Make a V12 out of the S54 engine? How could u go from 6 to 12 cylinders?
Anyways i think that if BMW does make a supercar it wont be within the next five years. They wanna make money and they are making plenty of it. they dont need a marketing boost, i mean, i see plenty of bmws everywhere i go. If sales started to go down and bmw needed a kick start i could see them putting out a supercar, but i think they're doing ok I guess its smarter to go with cars moslty in the range of $28,000-$65,000. Instead of companies like jaguar, mercedes, etc...whose cars are mostly above $45,000.

LMAO!!!!! Are you shitting me? Why would anyone want to do this when you have BMW V12's to chose from that are already produced. This would be tantamount to making yourself an engine which involves a plethora of shit that most people know nothing about and in the process spending TONS of unneccessary cash. Of course with $$$ anything can be done, but the price to make a custom shit required for a huge and frivelous project such as this would FAR outweigh ANY gains.

READ THE REST OF THE THREAD...im not talking about an individual doing that, im talking about bmw doing that if they ever made a super car as discussed in this thread, i would never dream of any individual person talking a project such as making two s54s into one engine...

They don't need to make a new V12, they easy use the V12 from the 760. Just like how mclaren made the 850 v12 into a 670 hp beast.

the mclaren f1 is essentially 2 euro spec s50b30 engines welded together. not the old v12. very different. also take not of the 12 individual throttle bodies and all the other lovely bits of kit. i woulnd't be surprised to see some big hp v12's coming from bmw in the next 10 years. the m5 which seems to be bmw's toy for showing off their engineering prowess has gone through 2 generations of inline 6's to a v8 and now to a v10.... whats the next logical step? my guess would be a medium capacity v12 that revs its tits off.... that could be fun! wedge that in a 6 series and you would have a mighty fine car.

but i still think that a hotted up 850csi would definately be the hotness

*edit* when i last heard, bmw had announced a 335i, turbo 3.0 litre to fill the gap between the 330ci and the m3... and that is a biiiiig gap. probably their best option short of wedging a v8 into a normal 3 series

yeah from what i gather they only made one of them then decided that it'd be waaaaay too expensive to go into production. from what i've read about it, it was a very hotted up 850ci. but then they decided to abort it and made the 850csi instead. engine spec for the 850csi fell halfway between the 850ci and m8. the m8 was really a slightly milder modern interpretation of the m1. would have been awesome if htey actually made it

Yes and no. They didnt do it because they saw that the 8 series was not selling well. Production would have not been a problem, but they wouldnt have sold many so in essence, yes it wasnt a good business move, but the resources were there, they just didnt want to potentially take a hit on it. WHo knows what would have happened? Shit they only intended on making the 5000 E30 ///M3s for homologation and thats it, cuz they "knew" it wouldnt sell well, they ended up making 17+K worldwide and many many iterations which surprised even BMW. Once you drive it though, you can understand why they sold well. (Shameless plug of E30 ///M3, yes)

CleanAzzE30z, yeah thats pretty much what i meant by saying that it'd be too expensive to produce. the m8 would have had to have a relatively low price and that just wasn't going to cover the cost of production. hence too expensive.

I was almost sure that the engine had the same block as the V12 8 series...
The BMW 850 csi had the S70/1
The mclaren had the S70/2......

The E31 was introduced with the 5.0 V12 from the E32 750i. There was never an M8 but the 850CSi had an S70 engine which had ties to the Motorsport department. There was a four valve version of the S70, it's in the McLaren F1!

but you are saying that the S70 is two S50b30's put together?

S70 is more like two M88's together than S50

And otherwise 850 is allmost like two M20B25 welded together
