BMW 840CI Rare??? - Page 3

Maybe somebody had put such a numbers in the back on his 8-series but I remember that one of those 18 cars is still running somewhere. I did see the "830Ci" in Germany a couple of years ago. It must be quite nice to drive the only one that exist, if it is true.

The 8 series was a new radical design for bmw, and they marketed it as a 2+2 for the west coast market, specifically california. In the early 90's, the automatic transmission was desirable in high-end sportscars on the west coast, and for that reason over 90% of the cars sold in the US have a 4 speed auto transmission. That is not to say that both the 840, and 850 cannot be found with a manual, but the 850i and 850csi were consiterably rare, and the transmission is also valuble, as it is the only one that can directly bolt-up to the us 750il, which was only sold with an automatic transmission in the US.

I did a little lookin on www.e31.net about the 8ers, I love em, I want one, and I will buy one soon =) . Anyways there was an 830ci, about 500 of them or so was first made to try for gas economy, wrong choice by BMW since the 4300lb car needs at least a large displacement V8 to be considered a sport touring car. In turn they used those models as the crash test cars, each prototype was valued at almost a million dollars US market at the time, ouch! I was also interested in the M8 myth, but they only made way less than 20 of them, and there is only ONE left "sitting behind boxes in the BMW storyard", which BMW plans on destroying in the near future ='( It is an amazing 500hp super coupe, which they just gave the CSI package the title of the Motorsport division since they are specially tuned all around, marking one of the finest 8ers produced.

there are i think 205 known csi's in the us and theres achually 2 on http://www.autotrader.com ... now one for 56 and one for 35...

other day on my way to michigan, i was pulling out of wendys with my cousin, what did i see, an 840csi. great condition too. and not slow at all

I dunno what kind of car or numbers you're talking about, but the 8er that I drive on a regular basis has a 5-Speed Automatic tranny.... 4-sp were never made for the 8er... AFAIK...

yah they were, if you have the Ci package they have the 5pd auto, the regular i editions had the 4spd auto, check it on the site that I posted, booyah.

OR... we could do this: walk over to the garage, jump in my dad's 850CiA, and take it for a test drive. If I can get a little "5" to appear, then you give me your car. If not, then I give you my car. Deal?

lol are you blind? I SAID IF YOU HAVE THE "CI" package it comes with a 5pd auto, IF you have JUST the "I" badge on the deck then its a 4spd. If your dad had an 850i it would be mine, =P , doubt me? Go to www.e31.net like I already said and look at the technical data, Im goina throw down another BOOYAh for that one buddy.
