I used to drive my dads 840ci all over the place..Georgeous car that was insanely good looking, black and sleek. Only the 850csi came in manual, a 6spd.

I figure my ideal car would be an 850ci widebody twin turbo, it would be a dream in iteself. I definitely recommend that car, handles great in the snow with snow tires.

I was just wondering what the pros and cons are to owning one. What problems do they have? I know that they have alittle bit too much power for me right now, but I just got curious about them. So I thought I would ask.

not quite, there were 200 850i's in 1990 and 1991 that had 6speeds.

that has nothing to do with power to weight. and its common sense that a Z3 would spank an 8er in the twisties.... ~3000lb roadster with tight suspension vs. a 4200lb GT with a sporty suspension.

wait so coming out of a corner to accelerate has nothing to do with power/weight?

This should be a good site for you. The 8's got a bad rap when they came out because they were the bigger replacement for the 6. They are heavy, but high luxury. I think the 850i started around 85-90k, versus the signifigantly less expensive 6.

I think, in my humble opinion, that the 8 should be an auto. It is more luxury than sport, unless we are talking about the Motorsport tuned 850Csi. That is a different story.

Happy learning!

Denny

acceleration depends on torque, speed is horsepower dependant. If anything, an 850Ci should have an advantage when it comes to initial acceleration out of a corner (for the first second or so). However, through the corner the car is still going to be much slower, so if you're doing 2/3 of a mile per 1 mile covered of twisties, then corner acceleration isn't that important.
