Need help with a few things

1) smoke, i have a 88 750il, and it smokes at times its fine but others its real bad from the exhaust. How can I find the problem and fix this?

2) is there anyway of making the steering more tight? Its a little loose.

Thanks guys, any tips will help even if you know of a good bmw mechanic around my area (Bergen County NJ, dont mind going to other counties in jersey or around NY)

What color smoke? When does it occur? When its warm, when its cold.... Let us know.

Temp does not matter, it happens randomly but I notice it when I go up hills or I drive a lot but this is not always the case. the smoke is greyish blueish and smells like oil and gas. any tips?

Wow, blue.... No good man. First thing is first before I proceed to scare you. Buy a compression tester, and test the compression of your motor. I personally think you may have some rings, OR valve stem seals going out. Either one isnt fun, but rings is the worst of all evils. Compression test it, it will let us know more.
