| Your 635 is actually an inline 6 cylinder, and the engine coed is M30. Im sure you can put one of those engines in. The one in the 735/535 of the erly 90's is what I would go with, they got a bump in compression and you wont have to deal with too many wiring harness issues and converting too much stuff. Its basically the same engine, the M30, but newer and has is a bit re-done. Plus you wont have to change the engine mounting points. A V-8 will be a pain in the ass.

| There are only two viable engine swaps for the E24/E28 chassis that don't require too much chopping and cutting. The latest M30B35 from the 535/735 which is basicly just a boost in power which you could achieve by overhauling, recamming and rechipping your eninge. You could also just swap out the F/I unit off of the newer engine as well. The other option is to do what BMW did. They used the E24 as the test mule for the E31, to evaluate how the 12 cylinder behaved. The swap is more than possible but you need a V12 to start with and finding one in good shape thats not still attached to a 750/850 is hard. Good luck.
