| just got back from driving a 635 csi nice car, it didnt seem like i was going fast then i look at the speedo and im cruising at 80, it felt like i was going 40. that car is built though. handles incredibly sell for a car of its size. i really want to get one now, my borhter is getting his license soon and im trying to convince him to get one just so i can look at it everyday ![]() |

| For just about all of the E12/24 run the gear sets ran like this: <table border="1"> <tr> <td><font color="#000080"><strong>BMW</strong></font></td> <td><font color="#000080"><strong>original gear ratio</strong></font></td> <td><font color="#000080"><strong>suggested ratio</strong></font></td> </tr> <tr> <td><strong>630, 633 to 9/81 (side loader)</strong></td> <td>3.45</td> <td>3.64</td> </tr> <tr> <td><strong>633 9/81-9/82 (side loader)</strong></td> <td>3.25</td> <td>3.64</td> </tr> <tr> <td><strong>633 9/82-12/83</strong></td> <td>3.25</td> <td>3.64</td> </tr> <tr> <td><strong>633 12/83></strong></td> <td>3.25</td> <td>3.64</td> </tr> <tr> <td><strong>635 to 6/87 all</strong></td> <td>3.46</td> <td>3.73</td> </tr> <tr> <td><strong>635 6/87> 5-Speed</strong></td> <td>3.64</td> <td>3.91</td> </tr> <tr> <td><strong>635 6/87> Auto</strong></td> <td>3.91</td> <td>4.10</td> </tr> </table> For all intents and purposes you could get away with saying that all 635 autos and M's got a 3.91 while the 5 speeds had the 3.64. LSD was an option on the 635CSi and the L6 and standerd on the M6. You can go pretty much as high or as llow with your final drive gearing if you can fine a machine shop willing to cut the gear set. It is highly advisable to enlist the help of a mechanical engineer to work out the bugs of a custom gear set.
