1986 BMW 635csi with m tags

My first question is, Could this be an m6? Second, if I got this car, is there another model of bmw which has similar parts (ex. suspension, engine, exhaust...)? This car would need serious restoration, new hood and floor pans, where could I find these. I am looking to completely swap the engine and ecu for a newer one, what would work.

Thanks much, i will be posting quite frequently.

I got your IM but only a few hours later.

To ID an M6 is fairly easy:

battery, mounted in trunk
Transmission, manual only. Usualy the "dogleg" close ratio with 1st being to the left and down.
Engine: ///M valvecovers, twin cam 6 throttles DOES NOT look like this

Other than that the M6 had the 3 spoke /// wheel and sports seats with knee supports. Front brakes were 2 piston sype and the car sits naturaly lower with widers BBS rims as opposed to the TRX on factory rims.

PM me with your details on wha you need to help put this baby back together. The E24 (6 series) was based almost entirly on it's sister car the E26 (5 series) of the samer period. from what I've seen many of the body pannels forward of the windsheild could be made to work and almost the entire driveline and suspension but will swap. I know of a parts-able car or two.

I am also working on a front airdamn replacement piece that mounts to the factory point and won't cost an arm and a leg.

I can tell you right now that it's not an M... the ///M6 badge for the rear was placed where the 635CSi badge is.

What you have there is a rough examply but I think I can help you out with spares.

The M6 and M635CSi are the same car but this is not from that I can see an M6, the badging is wrong. On the trunk lid where the 635CSi badge is is where it would say ///M6 much like this

They did not have both the ///M badge and the 635CSi badge.

That is definately not an M car. M6s were only made in the mid to late eighties. That is a nice example of an early e24 and I would reccommend you purchasing that if the price is right. That is incredibly rare and would make a wonderful restoration project.

The trans is a Getrag 265cr "dogleg" wiht the close ratio gearing and no overdrive the infamous "M" box. The car is worth it just for that if the price is right.

And Pasadena, M6 came either with the ///M or the ///M6 if they were a federalized euro model. The reason for the Euro badge was they were brought in as less than they were.

There is NO M635CSi badging, it is either 635CSi or ///M(6).
