?'s about Euro 635csi Price and Whatnot.

OK i'm looking at a 1985 BMW Euro 635CSI, the guy says "restored a year ago to incrible original condition, 119k miles, very tight suspension, Cosmos Blue, Silver exterior, Must Sell $8,000 OBO"
Now I know the Euro model is lighter, better looking bumpers, and a 218hp engine, but is it really worth that much. I was thinking it would be worth around $6k. Especially considering it needs tires and it has TRX wheels. Also the radio doesnt work. And my bank said their not even sure they can finance a car this old, so what are my alternatives.
Thanks for any advice ya'll have for me.

Is it close so you can actually see the car? One could also ask, what's it worth to you? If 6k is what you think it is worth, tell him. These cars are worth what someone is willing to pay. I don't believe there is a book that has a value in it. good luck.

Well its like a 3 hour drive from where I live. Which is not too far, but I don't exactly want to make the trip twice.

Also tell me what you think about how they drive. My past experience is a 1985 BMW 535i standard, how does it compare?

Have a read of the buyers guide for 6ers at Bigcoupe.com

http://www.bigcoupe.com/buying/index.html

Take a copy of the checklist (or make your own)

http://www.bigcoupe.com/buying/checklist.html

Remember a euro probably came from a country that salts the road in winter (virtualy no snow here down under so its an issue for us) so check for rust under the car, this may be normal in your neck of the woods, but here its a significant issue.

Remember what the owner wants is a starting point, the TRXs are a point against, so say that to him, but don't mention price untill after you have looked at the car, to do otherwise just makes you look like an idiot (I know what its like to sell a car, recently sold my old E30).

I guess the other thing to consider is the mechanicals are common with the E28 so they aren't too expensive, but body parts are unique to the car so they are not cheap.

Good Luck,
Iain.

Awe crap. Sorry, but I just found out that the 635csi gets ruffly 20mpg. I can't have anything lower than 25mpg highway due to the large number of highway miles I put on cars. Damn and I was really liking the look of a shark.

The thing commmanding the price here is its relatively low miles and its euro status. Have a look-see (I cant believe I just said that) and itll give you a better clue. Interior bits should be decent. But its all moot anyways since you need a better mileage car. Sorry to have chimed in so late on this one.

The thing to remember about a 6er is it may not get great miles per gallon but it does get great smiles per gallon

Cheers,
Iain.

No I totally agree, but I am a poor college student and money doesn't grow on tree's. Gas mileage with the amount of miles I put on cars is heavily weighed in on fun factor. Would you honestly want to buy a car and wonder if you would rather pay for gas or food. Ok maybe it's not that far, but close.

O.K. It's been many moons since I was in college. I had to think back to those days, I had to sell the only new car I have ever owned ("69 Dodge Coronet 500) because I had no money. There will come a time in your life when you will be able to look back and appriciate the things you have and the sacrifices you have made. Then the toys may look as rewards for the hard work you have done.

Yeah, In my case it was a VW Beetle, I was lucky got a job in my field and so worked full time, taking a day off work once a week to do things I couldn't do nights, a very long time ago now.

I couldn't have put it any better, for a few years I had no car (long story) and I used the money I earned from my new job to buy an E30, It was my prize for all that effort. Sold that car in april this year and have my E24, its worth so much more to me because it represents what I've been working for.

If it was given to me I'd love it but it wouldn't mean as much,

Cheers,
Iain.
