Great things happened this weekend!! My best friend came over from Seattle (I'm lucky if I see him twice a year anymore). We tackled the 6er.
The list started with brakes. The e-brake has never worked and the calipers were all somewhat stuck from non use. We started with the e-brake. After removing the calipers and rotors, we found the problem. The shoes must have been original, there was no material on the shoes. What do you when it's Saturday and you are in the sticks? You search the donor car only to find new e-brake shoes. We are in business again!!
Next came the calipers. And while we were at it, I had a Bavauto stainless brake line kit I bought on e-bay. Here is where what we thought would be hard became easy and what we thought to be easy became hard. The calipers (hard) broke free with no problem. The brake lines (easy) turned into a two day nightmare! Almost every fitting ended up being corroded in one way or another. We ended up destroying three steel lines on the car. Thanks again to the donor, we were saved. The whole thing took much longer than expected, but I now have a operational e-brake and a brake system that just needs to be purged with new fluid.
Next on the list will be the new motor mounts and checking out the engine followed by it's installation.
Much was accomplished in two days. It helped to have an old friend and fellow BMW junkie to help.

My posts are few and far between on this forum. I don't know why, maybe it's because there aren't very many old farts like me here. I mean, hey look, I'm sixty!!
I'm still working on the car. It's slow, especially with all the other things going on with life that keeps one busy.
Where we stand at this time: I moved the car to my brother in laws so I could work on it through the winter. I actually got the engine back in this week. Young son is coming home from college this weekend, and we hope to get the transmission in. This depends on the weather, if the snow looks good--I'm hitting the mountain. Can't pass up what could be my last weekend of the year.

Damn sixty? Respect!! Im 27 and Ive been in the BMW scene since 18-19. Wow. Im glad you still havent forgotten this thread, brother!!

Well, I have been into BMW since 74, fell in love with a 73 2002. No, I haven't forgotten, i feel a certain obligation to continue what I started.
The work is slow. My job takes much time, not to mention the cost of putting a son through college. Oh yes, there are the two acres I live on, care to mow it for me? Do you know how to prune fruit trees? (I make a joke) I am just saying, I love my car and WILL have it running, the 'when' is what I don't know.
Mariano--you are one person i want to meet. I am hoping to make it to one of the pacific sharkfests, you willing to drive the M3 up for the event?

Its still pretty current... Yea i peak in here once in a while... Keep up the great work.

very nice man good luck with that 6 post asap when finished id love to see exactly what you did. i have an 88' not a euro though but im trying to fix her up as well. ill be making a thread also as soon as i can get my thoughts and everything in order

I get so frustrated at times I just want to bang my head against the wall until I pass out. Here it is, October already! What have I got done since my last post? Diddley/squat! I did get the transmission in and most of the engine wiring done. Then I got busy, you know, summer stuff. Anyway, I had to bring the car home, brother in law was more than kind to let me use his shop, but he needed all of it. So, the car is now back in my shop in the dust again. Some how, I will work on it this winter. Crap, what can I say?
