Half Way???

If one considers the tearing apart of a project half way, then I'm almost there. I got the trans. out today (what a job!!!), nothing like the 5 speed. Had to make a wrench to take the fan clutch off. All that is left to do is check the rear end (ratio, leaks, etc.), and pull the engine. Then the REAL FUN begins. Putting it all back together the way I want it
I really wanted to go to Bimmerfest and Shark fest this year but it will have to wait, Hopefully next year.

You should come down to Bfest anyways, with or without your car. Ive been doing it for years now cuz every year for some reason I cant take the ///M3. Its LOTS of fun. 3 days and 2 nights of UCSB, hotel, drinking debauchery. DIG IT!!

Being an old frat boy, I can dig it!!! Unfortunately, I'm considerably older now, have a lovely wife and can't party as I used to. We want to show up in style, have a good time and head up the coast(haven't done that in years). Give me a year, I have to get son through school and on his own before my lovely bride and I can start playing again. YOU WILL KNOW when I'm going to show up.

And yes, Cartech.net makes a turbo kit for the 635csi. I am interested in getting a 635csi, how well do they handle? Are they reliable? Good on insurance? Basically my biggest question is it reliable enough for an everyday car?

The road to success is often covered with tiny steps. I took a few today. I put the differential from the doner in along with the axles. I decided to use this one only because it was the best choice of the two. The good car had a 3.07:1 open unit in it. This is standard for an auto car of this year. The doner should have had a 3.07:1 LSD, being it was a manual car. It also should have had a 262 c/r 5 speed (dogleg). Somewhere along the line the trans was changed. This is not suprising, the 262s had lousy synchros and could go out in as little as 50k mi.. The set up must have come from an early 633, the trans is a 265 o/d 5 speed (good one) and the diff is a 3.25:1 open. This is not what I really would like but it will have to do for now.
I need to do some brake work, but it will have to wait until the car is running. I also took a hint and started putting the basketweaves from the doner on. Much nicer looking than those other things.
I haven't taken any pictures because the car is covered with dirt from the winter winds. If you folks would like, I will.

OK. Here are some pictures. This is what I mean about the winter dirt/dust/wind.
Black sport interior is in, I'll replace the carpet later.
The U.S. gauges that will hit the dust soon.
Spare parts on my computer desk. I look at them all the time. Reminds me of my goal.
The old Willys that I talk about. My next project.

Good to see some progress

Looking forward to seeing the car complete.

Good luck my friend,

Excellent day today!! I got the old engine out, started on cleaning the engine bay, and the poor old car saw the sun for the first time in two years.
