Grey Imports

My 635csi is a grey import (euro model). Does anyone know what things are changed to bring them into the states. The ones I know about are the cat that was hacked into the exhaust and wiring changes to the headlights along with the removal of the good ones. I would like to return it to it's former glory as close as possible. Any info will be appreciated.

speedo to mph,active check to english,horrible 5 mph bumpers instead of 2 mph.and i am sure a lot more.good luck

Yes to the speedo, NO to the bumpers, I have the originals. Can you think of anything else?

Awesome. I lve seeing grey market cars around. They probably put some side reflectors in orange (front) and red (rear) somewhere near the bumpers. Us E30 guys know quite a bit about getting these types of parts (healights) cuz we also get them for our cars. The sealed beams are HORRIBLE I dont see why the U.S. insists on being behind the automotive curve in terms of laws and specifications of headlights/bumpers and such. now I suppose its the 2.5mph for all models entering, too bad we had the diving boards. What color is your car? Looks nice. Some of the euro models had headlight wipers too.

The car is Brazilbraun-metallic, biege interior which I can't stand. They put red marker lights on the rear quarter fenders, at least they are BMW. No reflectors. The headlight wiring has been changed so when the switch in in park, the low beam comes on along with the turn signal/marker light. Then, when you turn on the headlights, the outside hi beam comes on. The inner hi beam comes on when you hit the hi/lo switch. The front fogs are missing but it does have rear fogs.
Nice E30, we sold a '85 318i a coupe of months ago and replaced it with a '97 M3.

Rear fogs? Its a miracle they didnt take those off. Any bigger pics?

The rear fogs are easy to hide. they are just another bulb in the tail light assy. I don't have many pics of the car, I'm still trying to figure out how to post them. Either I figure it out or wait until the weather gets better so I can get the poor old thing out of the shop where it has been sitting for over a year, and take some good pics. I'll try and post something in a couple of days.

When you post a reply (not quick reply) there is an option to "Manage attachments", then you can browse your feils and attach them to your post. If you actually want it to show up, only do one at a time. 1 file per post.

I actually like the color a lot. Reminds me of a Porsche color of the same period. Looks Q car. *thumbs up*

I found a wrecked one, same year, good engine, 5 speed, black interior. Hope to pick it up this next weekend. How do you think black would look with the exterior color?

Glad to hear it. I feel like a litle kid waiting for a new toy. I've been wanting to get the car running for almost 3 years now, I can just taste it. What kind of headlights are in your M3? I'm looking for a set that belong in this car, with the "city light" in them.
