| E46 M3 tranny noise-Help!!!
So, a few weeks ago I bought an '03 M3 6-speed with 49k on the ticker. The car is sweet and I thoroughly enjoy it, but have a few concerns. This is my first E46 M3, I previously had an E36 so I'm getting used to it's.....noises I guess you could say.
My concern is with the tranny. First of all it seems quite notchy, especially when colder. I'm used to a fairly notchy tranny having owned an E36, but this just seems a little TOO notchy. Thinking about changing fluid out with the Redline D4-ATF after reading various posts and on Turner Motorsports' recommendation. Any thoughts on this?
My second and more major concern is with a noise that I noticed for the first time today. My buddy and I were cruising around this evening and we pulled over to talk. We were along side eachother with our cars running. I had the car in neutral with the clutch pedal out and noticed a strange sound coming from my tranny. It was like a loose, rattley, bearing like sound. When I depressed the clutch pedal and disengaged the clutch it went away. When I released the clutch pedal it started again. Anybody else with this problem? Any input on what it could be? The sound isn't audible from inside the car; only from outside when you're listening closely. Wondering if I have a tranny bearing going bad(hope not). I haven't had any problems with gear engagement or clutch slippage so I'm confused as to what it could be. Any help?! Thanks in advance!  |
