The e46 is unattainable by most still and that is deffinitely a drawback. But, that is really its only drawback.

Having driven and owned both of them (my mother has an E46 ///M) I will whoeheartedly agree. They went a little less conservative with the E46, different wider fenders, lots of engine sound in the cabin, raw peaky engine, etc. Its absolutely a great standard out of the box car.
