| Hasn't happened to me cuz I went preventative on it's @$$! I've seen it happen a bunch and you won't know without an oil pressure gauge (and then you've got 10 secs) or some electronic warning light. The stock oil pressure light comes on to let you know the engine is done if it stays on for more than a second. I run the euro pan with the double pump fancy stuff and have it safty wired. Fingers crossed.
Keep in mind, the shaft breaks next, personally I think from the metal getting heated during drilling or welding. A lot less likely to happen than the nut falling off though.
