in this case i think there are far more factors to be considered. in general, OBD1 and OBDII both have advantages... OBDII winning out for nearly all applications.

in the specific case of the E36 M3, the 95 specifically is an inferior product, and that is not related to its ECU style.

the car has weak valve retainers, is structurally deficient compared to the newer models, has archaic HVAC controls, tough leather and many many many aspects that were improved upon as the model run went on.

buy the newest M that you can.
