Well .. My radiator has left the fabricators and is on its way back to D/A
Here is a teaser pic and some data to hold you over until the it shows up to be installed on Monday. Quote:
Carmen: Here are some facts: The radiator is made from a custom core,
and is larger in capacity due to its all aluminum construction; the
walls of the tanks are thinner than plastic, and have a slightly larger
outside dimension.
Since the tanks are alloy, they contribute to radiant
surface area, which also aids in cooling. (For contrast, you might
measure the temperature of a plastic tank and compare it to ours, but
don't touch the tank)
The electric fan is made by Spal. and it pulls
1280 cubic feet per minute, according to the manufacturer. To assist the
fan in high speed situations, the 9 black flaps open if positive
pressure is generated above the fan's capacity. Because the fan and
shroud are sealed to one another, the efficiency of the cooling system
at low speeds is enhanced over the stock fan/shroud design by BMW.
If wired to allow it, the fan can be engaged manually to assist in cool
down while sitting still. Also, because of the independent temperature
switch, a lower temperature value can be used to engage the fan under
normal driving conditions, allowing greater reserves of lower temp
coolant.
Of most importance to you is the reliability of the alloy
construction, especially in the high waste heat situation a super
charger generates. With regard to the super charger fitment, the upper
neck and shroud have been designed to accommodate tight clearance in
front of the compressor, and the fan was relocated to allow better belt
access. As in all our designs, factory fit of accessories is designed
into the basic radiator. Hope this helps.
