The road to success is often covered with tiny steps. I took a few today. I put the differential from the doner in along with the axles. I decided to use this one only because it was the best choice of the two. The good car had a 3.07:1 open unit in it. This is standard for an auto car of this year. The doner should have had a 3.07:1 LSD, being it was a manual car. It also should have had a 262 c/r 5 speed (dogleg). Somewhere along the line the trans was changed. This is not suprising, the 262s had lousy synchros and could go out in as little as 50k mi.. The set up must have come from an early 633, the trans is a 265 o/d 5 speed (good one) and the diff is a 3.25:1 open. This is not what I really would like but it will have to do for now.
I need to do some brake work, but it will have to wait until the car is running. I also took a hint and started putting the basketweaves from the doner on. Much nicer looking than those other things.
I haven't taken any pictures because the car is covered with dirt from the winter winds. If you folks would like, I will.
