Sorry for the slow reply. The forums been down for like 2 weeks. Man this has done damage to its rep.

Don't have a bimmer myself, but my dad only had serious trouble with 1 out of 6 bimmers he owned. The early E46 320d had problems, but BMW petrol engine cars are quite reliable. The 3series has the best reliability, at least in South Africa. Not sure bout the Z3 though.

Something on all cars will break. Audi, BMW and Mercs are round about the same, when it comes to reliability.
