No knowledge of the smooth, paint-ready trim, but if you take the factory trim that is on the car to a professional, they will sandblast it, then prime it for the best stick. I wouldnt' hand sand it, as you would want the surface to be as even as possible. Leave it to a pro, results far exceed anything one can achieve with sand paper and a can of spray paint, its worth the money.
