but that kind of conversion goes against the original intent of the car- which was to maximise the power available without compromising handling- and bmw succeeded well enough with that intent that i think it's almost an affront to make it nose-heavy by dumping a six in.
i don't care if it's purism. if you want more power than you can get from an s14 with a stroker kit, then go forced-induction- if you want a six-cylinder m3, get an e36- 99.9% of people won't be able to use that much power in such a light car anyway, especially on the street. |
In a straight line, absolutely.
On the track: A lot of road-courses have elevation change, and having real torque coming out of corners is very nice, and 250+ horsepower coming down the straight is also nice. More than enough to wax an S14.
People say these swaps kill the cars balance.

I have a 3.0L in my 318, it weighs 2600 pounds, and I don't have any handling issues with it.
Plus it's nice to be able to run E46 M3's to 130+ in an old, high-mileage E30 318.
S14's belong in 2002's and 2200 pound E30's. But not in street cars and daily drivers.
